The Difference!

Contrasting the Republican candidates
How does Cathy Dahlquist differ on the issues from the other Republican in the race?
Here are a few areas where Cathy and her opponent, Shawn Bunney, disagree:

Taxes:
While Cathy Dahlquist supports setting spending priorities, not raising taxes, Shawn Bunney supported the biggest tax increase in County history. Read the Tacoma News Tribune article: http://www.thenewstribune.com/2007/06/01/75893/roads-package-moves-ahead.html

Pay raises in tough times:
Cathy Dahlquist did not vote to raise pay for herself or other government employees, while Shawn Bunney voted to increase his own salary by 21%, even while the economy was entering a recession. Read the Tribune article about the pay raise vote here: http://www.thenewstribune.com/2007/06/27/97056/pay-raises-approved-for-county.html

Government Spending:
As School Board Director, dealt with a 17% decline in revenues by reducing spending, maintaining a surplus, and still increased student test scores. Cathy says, “More money doesn’t mean better government.” Shawn Bunney voted for increases spending, even when revenue forecasts were down. Even Democrats in county government criticized Bunney for voting for larger budgets than the administration requested.
